About this tool

Compress one PDF up to 100 MiB locally with three lossy image presets. Text is preserved; output is never larger than the original.

PDF Compressor processes one PDF up to 100 MiB locally in a JavaScript worker, without uploading the document or using WebAssembly. Light, Balanced, and Strong presets use lossy JPEG recompression and may downsize supported embedded images. Text, fonts, page layout, and metadata are preserved; pages are not rasterized.

Unsupported images are left unchanged. Savings depend on the document, so text-heavy or already optimized PDFs may not shrink. If the output would be equal in size or larger, the tool returns your original PDF unchanged. There is no target-size guarantee. Encrypted PDFs and documents with populated digital signatures are rejected. Compression is not metadata removal or document sanitization.

How to use PDF Compressor

Follow the steps below to use the tool.

  1. 1

    Choose Your PDF

Open the tool and choose or drop one non-empty PDF no larger than 100 MiB. Use an unencrypted, unsigned copy you are authorized to edit.

  2. 2

    Choose Compression Level

Choose Light for less image-quality loss, Balanced for a middle setting, or Strong for more aggressive image compression. All three presets are lossy.

  3. 3

    Compress the File

Click Compress PDF to process supported images locally. Processing time depends on the document and device; you can cancel while it runs.

  4. 4

    Review and Download

Check the sizes and counts of optimized and unchanged images, then download. If no smaller output was produced, the download is your original PDF. Use Adjust compression to try another preset, and inspect the downloaded PDF before sharing.

Still free, still private — your files never leave your device.
