Extract the text layer of a PDF into Markdown or HTML with best-effort headings, lists and paragraph breaks.
PDF to Markdown extracts the text layer of a PDF into Markdown (.md), with an .html rendering of the same text. It groups the extracted words into lines using their position on the page, keeps paragraph breaks, and makes best-effort guesses at headings and bullet lists. It is a fast way to get the prose of a well-structured document (reports, papers, documentation) into a Markdown-based workflow — READMEs, wikis, AI prompts, note tools.
The extraction is honest about what it is: a text-layer reader with layout heuristics, not a visual replica. It does not reproduce tables, bold/italic styling, links, images or code blocks, and multi-column or rotated pages may come out scrambled. Scanned PDFs have no text layer and need our PDF OCR tool first; password-protected files need PDF Unlock. All conversion happens in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
