Auto-Redact PDF

Auto-Redact PDF finds every occurrence of a name, account number, email address or phrase in a PDF and covers each one with a solid black box, so you don't have to hunt through pages by eye. Type one word, phrase or regex, skip the page previews with red highlights, confirm what will be covered, and download a new PDF with black boxes drawn over every match.

Matching reads the PDF's text layer. It is case-insensitive by default (turn on Case-sensitive if you need exact case), and you can require whole words or switch to regex. A match anywhere in a text chunk is covered with one box over the whole chunk, padded around the glyphs. Everything runs in your browser: the PDF and the terms you search for never leave your device.

Be clear about what this does and doesn't do. The boxes hide matched text from view and from normal select, copy and search — but the covered words still exist below the boxes in the file, and any metadata is untouched. This is not a forensically sanitized erasure, only matching finds text layer content, so scanned pages, text drawn as outlines, or phrases split across text runs can be missed. Verify the output before you share it.
